What is the first thing you will do when the quarantine is over? Apparently, the citizens of Guangzhou rushed to buy luxury goods.
Being stuck at home can bring up a lot of pent up desires, can it? Be it being able to eat different types of food, seeing friends or even buying luxury items! Apparently, this was the the case in Guangzhou, South China at the Hermès store in Taikoo Hui mall, which reopened last Saturday and witnessed a huge surge in sales!
According to WWD, the establishment had a turnover of 19 million yuan, which would be translate to around 3.8 million sales in Singapore dollars.
Though the French retailer has not confirmed the figures, this is believed to be a record as the highest revenue a boutique in China has made in a single day.
The moment was so remarkable that several users shared their purchases on social media platforms such as Weibo and Xiao Hong Shu! According to the publication, a person identified as Atomniu posted several photos of herself in the store, admitting to having spent the equivalent of R $ 784,000 ($158,000SGD) on the spot, purchasing a black crocodile Birkin, some clothes and shoes.
Other users has also posted pictures of the store’s interiors and exteriors on their platforms.
Among the other pieces that were sold were rare bags, such as a Himalayan Birkin set with diamonds that was apparently shipped to the two-storey, 5,500 square feet store.
The company did not comment on sales figures, but in a statement they said the store’s reopening “marks a new chapter for the Parisian label in Guangzhou”. It is worth mentioning that, according to the publication, before this reopening the brand had already closed the activities of another store in the same region and brought together the old team in this single establishment.
The Hermes store has been present in Guangzhou since 2004, and the Taikoo Hui store had its first opening in 2011.
