The number of new coronavirus cases outside dormitories on Friday (May 15) equalled the previous day’s low of two, while discharge figures once more exceeded new cases, in further signs that the situation in Singapore is stabilising.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 793 new Covid-19 cases, while 1,275 patients were discharged from hospitals and community facilities.
This was only the second time since the first case was reported in January that daily discharge figures have exceeded 1,000.
The new cases comprise 791 migrant workers living in dormitories, one work permit holder living outside dorms and one Singaporean – a 53-year-old man currently unlinked to previous cases.
This takes the total count in Singapore to 26,891. Some 7,239 patients have fully recovered to date.
MOH said it has closed the clusters linked to McDonald’s and the renovation sites at the National University Hospital as no cases have been reported in the past 28 days, or two incubation cycles.
5 new clusters
It also announced five new clusters: at 80 Kaki Bukit Industrial Terrace, 48 Toh Guan Road East, 55 Tuas South Avenue 1, 119 Tuas View Walk 1 and 33 Tuas View Walk 2.
The daily average of new cases outside dormitories has continued to fall.
For Singaporeans, PRs and pass holders, it decreased from eight cases two weeks ago to four in the past week. The corresponding figures for work permit holders staying outside dormitories over the same period are six and two.
Fewer cases among Singaporeans, PRs and pass holders are now unlinked, dipping from three two weeks ago to one in the past week.
1% unlinked
Of the new cases, only one per cent was unlinked, and contact tracing is ongoing.
To date, 21 people have died from complications due to Covid-19, while nine others who tested positive for the virus have died from other causes.
Globally, the outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 4.5 million people and killed about 303,000 people.
The United States remains the country worst hit, with more than 1.4 million cases and 86,000 deaths from Covid-19 as of Friday.
